Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater monitoring is conducted at Lowry AFB as part of the ongoing cleanup activities. Groundwater monitoring provides data to help in evaluating progress and to verify the effectiveness of various corrective measures.  The monitoring is accomplished under the Closure/Performance Groundwater Monitoring Program (GMP).

The purposes of the Closure/Performance GMP for the Main TCE Plume are to:

  • Define a well network appropriate for supporting closure monitoring activities;
  • Define a well network appropriate for monitoring performance of the remedial activities (to support closure activities)
  • Provide timely data to guide current and future remedial activities; and,
  • Establish a basis for future No Further Action (NFA) requests and regulatory determinations.

Samples are collected twice a year, in January and July. Data are evaluated after each round and recommendations made regarding any change to the network or remediation strategy.  The results are presented in a groundwater monitoring report. The most recent groundwater monitoring reports include the January 2010 sampling event for the Main Plume and the
Headquarters and Fire Training Zone Plumes
